In addition to operating as a school of audio, THI also operates a full service recording studio based in NY. The live room can accommodate almost any size group from solo performers all the way to medium sized orchestras. The room itself was designed by CBS records and is fully acoustically treated and engineered for pristine sound. Loud rock drummers sound great in this room! Analog recording techniques are the heart and soul of THI featuring a Studer 2′ tape machine and a 48 channel Soundtracs Jade console. Protools 10 is also available for clients who prefer digital or want to transfer a project between formats. Robert Honablue is the Chief Engineer and his experience is really the key to making a great sounding final product. His credits include Led Zeppelin I, II, III, IV, Santana Abraxas, and Miles Davis Bitches Brew among many others.
VIRTUAL TOUR (view the studio click on images below)
The centerpiece of our control room is a 48 channel/96 input Sountracs Jade console feeding a Studer A820- 2″ tape machine. We are also in the process of integrating Pro Tools. Our outboard processing includes DBX compressors and reverbs by Lexicon and T.C. Electronic.
Designed by CBS records in 1968 and built with double floating floors and metal shielded walls, our live room features a Yamaha C3 grand piano, Hammond B2 with Leslie 145, and a Yamaha Stage Custom drum kit.
The room measures approximately 36′x36′x16′.
Featuring Altec 604G speakers, we can master to and from 1/4″ tape as well as modern digital formats.
Robert also has decades of experience cutting vinyl for all you LP aficionados out there.
AUDIO SNIPPETS: Random snippets of recordings that were engineered by Robert Honablue and his interns.
